Z's 2008 NFL Week 5 REVIEW!
10/09/2008
Zsports Image Man you gotta love the NFL! What a week; great games, tide turning performances, and plenty of smash mouth football.
  • The Giants (4-0) Romp the Seahawks 44-6. Ouch!!! The defending Super Bowl champs are rollin, rollin, rollin! (Into Cleveland on Monday night)
  • The Colts did what nobody in the NFL has ever done, come back from 17 with under 4 minutes to play. Thanx Sage Rosenfells!
  • Texans, wow gave up 21 pts with under 4 mins. to play, as backup quarterback Sage Rosenfells literally dropped the win three times, in under 3 mins!!!
  • (5-0) Titans Oh no you didn't. One good offensive (sustained) drive all game, and it was enough for the win to stay undefeated (defense wins championships!)
  • The (4-1) Skins' for the second week in a row outplay one of the toughest teams in the NFL. Both teams division foes, Dallas, and Philadelphia!
  • Carolina rolls at home 34-0 over the (1-4) Chiefs. What a game Deangelo Williams. (Still think he's gonna loose his job?)
  • Da' Bears woooooow! Crush the Lions behind outstanding quarterback play, and great defense. (Kyle Orton 24-34, 334 yds. 2 TDs!)
  • The Steelers look like they are having a flashback from the 70's, and the steel curtain seems impenetrable.
  • The Bungles, Lions, Texans, and Rams are all -0- for 2008!!! Will any of them be off this list next week? (Not if they keep playing lousy football).

AFC East
Patriots- They always play great after a bye! (3-1) Pats took out the 49ers in San Francisco, and looked strong on both sides of the ball. New England will stay on the west coast this week for a game against the bewildered bolts, in San Diego.
NY Bretts- All is well after their bye. (2-2) Jets travel to winless Cincy' for a game with the seemingly helpless (0-5) Bungles.
Bills- Ooouch!! (4-1) Trent Edwards got knocked out (Just like Kimbo Slice). J.P. Losman once again proved why he is the #2 quarterback. The Bills lost their first game of the year (41-17) to the Cardinals. At least they have a bye week to assess quarterback Trent Edwards status.
Dolphins- (2-2) Oh no they didn't just double last years win total with victories in their last two games, over Pats and Chargers! The Dolphins are .500 and travel to winless Houston this Sunday, resurgent Miami looks to be dangerous for every team on the schedule.

AFC North
Steelers- (4-1) Hard-fought victory in Jacksonville, increases early division lead going into their bye this weekend. That was a great primetime game over a team that beat them twice last year (including playoffs).
Browns- (1-3) Hopefully they used the bye week to rebuild the porous defense, if not, the nightmare continues this Monday night against the undefeated defending Super Bowl Champion Giants in Cleveland.
Ravens- (2-2) That has got to hurt. Lost a heartbreaking defensive battle against the undefeated Titans, after surrendering one sustained offensive scoring drive all game, and it was enough for the loss. The road won't get any easier with the trip to Indy this weekend.
Bungles- (0-5) If they were playing horse shoes down in big D than that game might have meant something, but in the NFL it was just another loss. Cincy stays on the rocky road with a trip to NY to play the (2-2) Jets, who are coming off a bye.

AFC South
Colts- (2-2) When you are down by 17 with under 4 mins. to play, most teams would give up. Yet, thanx to Sage Rosenfells (with 2 fumbles lost and one interception in under 3 mins) and some opportunistic Colts defenders, they had the Texans right where they wanted them. 21 pts. later (in less than 3 mins) and it was just another win for Indy. After escaping the winless Texans the (2-2) Ravens come to town, and their defense is mad.
Jaguars- (2-3) Lost an epic battle with the Steelers at home, but put up a heck of a fight in primetime. Now it is time to travel to Denver to play the streaky Broncos(4-1). Could be one great game.
Titans- (5-0) Undefeated at the bye. Just barely slid by the Ravens for a comeback win. Great attacking defense, and an offense with great timing have paced the unblemished Titans, throughout their early season rise.
Texans- (0-4) Sage is a good quarterback, and I think he should start. With that said, I have never seen a worse 3 mins of football to loose the game in the fourth quarter. Despite being up by 17 pts with under 4 mins left, Sage Rosenfells literally dropped the ball, three times (1 INT, and 2 fumbles lost in under 3 mins.) to secure the loss. The (2-2) Dolphins are coming to town off two wins in a row. Can the Dolphins pull out three wins in a row, After a 1-15 2007?

AFC West
Chargers- (2-3) This team has some serious issues after a humbling loss in Miami 17-10. The bolts now take on the (3-1) Pats at home, as the Chargers continue to struggle to find the right gear come game time.
Broncos- (4-1) Erratic Denver escapes the Buccaneers with a three point home win. Now they face the (2-3) Jags' off their loss to the Steelers. Then they travel to New England before they get a bye week.
Raiders- (1-3) Hopefully they got some rest, and they are not mentally exhausted after the bye week and coaching change. It is time to travel to New Orleans to face Reggie and Drew and the rest of the (2-3) Saints'.
Chiefs- (1-4) Dismantled in every facet of the game in a 34-0 shellacking in Carolina. They get a bye this week, but it is gonna take a lot more than one weekend to fix this team.

NFC East (Toughest division in football!)
Cowboys- (4-1) They better be glad that the played Cincy, cause they do not need their best efforts to beat the Bungles. Will they play more cohesively in Arizona this week, against the suddenly explosive ‘Cards'?
Giants- (4-0) The G-men destroyed the stumbling Seahawks at home 44-6!!!! Next up a Monday night matchup with the underachieving and seemingly defenseless Brownies coming off their bye.
Skins- (4-1) NFC East the tides are turning, with victories over two of the NFL's toughest teams, and division rivals (Cowboys and Eagles) in consecutive weeks, the Skins' are riding a tidal wave through the early season, and next up the Rams. Washington will probably hang more than 10 this weekend.
Eagles- (2-3) Lose to the Skins after being up 14 early in the game, the potent Eagles suddenly sliding down the charts after tough losses against the Bears and Redskins in consecutive weeks. Philly has a lot to prove as they travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers fresh off their loss to the Pats'.

NFC North
Vikes- (2-3) What a game against the Saints on Monday night. Gus Frerotte held strong (despite a swarming Saints defense that hit him hard and often) and proved that he wont let anyone (except for padded walls) knock him out. Frerotte stayed in the pocket and took the hits, and made the passes that won the game. Up next the (0-5) Lions.
Packers- (2-3) Problems in title town, after the young Falcons upset the Packers at Lambeau Field 27-24. The Pack heads to Seattle (in a game that was a lot better when it was Brett vs. Coach Holmgren) to face the struggling Seahawks. With the unpredictable Aaron Rodgers at the helm, is this just what the Dr. ordered, or .....?????
Bears- (3-2) Chicago looked very strong vs. the (0-4) Lions. Kyle Orton looked like a star (24-34, 334 yds. 2 TDs) in the systematic beat down in Detroit. Next up a trip to surging Atlanta (3-2)
Lions- (0-4) Uuhhh...ummmm...uhh... Good luck in Minnesota this week?

NFC South
Panthers- (4-1) With the 34-0 Skunk-ing of the (1-4) Chiefs at home Carolina is lead by a stifling defense, a great running game, and an overall team effort. Deangelo Williams had a great game with 3 touchdowns (2 rushing + 1 receiving) anybody still think he is loosing his job, or is he just sharing it with all everything rookie Jonathan Stewart?? Next up a trip to Tampa Bay to face the (3-2) division rival Buccaneers and see who has a hand up in the division in the early season. This is always a great contest.
Falcons- (3-2) After an upset win at Lambeau Field, the up and coming Falcons have a very tough home game vs. Da' Bears. Michael Turner is turning into a star, and leads the league in rushing so far. Chicago is supposed to roll in and out of town with ease, but Green Bay was the favorite too.
Buccaneers- (3-2) Lost to the Streaky Broncos by three at Mile high stadium. Now they go back home to take on division leader Carolina(4-1). This is always a hard fought game between two tough clubs.
Saints- (2-3) Reggie Bush is an amazing receiver/returner, but the jury is still out on Reggie as a running back! After a tough loss to Minnesota on Monday night, the Saints get the Raiders after their Bye week/coaching change, fiasco.

NFC West (Weakest division in football!)
Cardinals- (3-2) Arizona's offense erupts again!!! How about to the tune of 41-17 over previously unbeaten Buffalo. The Cards' get their toughest test of the young season this week with a visit from the Cowboys.
Seahawks- (1-3) Ughhhhhh...Uhmmmm...uhhh???? Packers are coming to town, and Seattle has not stopped anyone yet (St. Louis does not count).
49ers- (2-3) Ugly home loss to the (3-1) Patriots, 49ers host the (2-3) Eagles, who are looking for redemption after two tough games.
Rams- (0-4) After their bye week with their new coach, travel to Washington. Good luck coach.
